Composite Lightweight Insulating Concrete Roof Deck System

The Elastizell composite insulating concrete roof deck is a high-performance, cost-effective, roof insulation system. For more than 50 years, the Elastizell Corporation of America has researched, developed, tested, and perfected the Elastizell Roof Deck System.

Elastizell lightweight insulating concrete roof decks have over 34,000 RoofNav assemblies and numerous wind uplift, fire, and seismic ratings with both mechanically fastened modified bituminous built-up roofing (BUR) systems and fully adhered single-ply membranes (EPDM, PVC, TPO). Major roofing manufacturers accept Elastizell Roof Decks with their warranted membranes.

Advantages of Elastizell Lightweight Insulating Concrete Roof Decks

Positive Drainage

Elastizell Roof Decks provide positive drainage in both new construction and re-roofing applications. Positive drainage patterns are achieved by combining a stair-stepped premium expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation board encapsulated with custom sloping of the Elastizell lightweight insulating concrete.

Versatile

Elastizell Roof Decks can be placed over precast or cast-in-place concrete, as well as galvanized (G-60 or G-90) steel decking. EPS insulation board increases R-values and reduces dead load, with system weights as low as 6 to 9 PSF.

Excellent Wind Uplift Ratings

Elastizell lightweight insulating concrete roof decks perform as an air retarder providing excellent wind uplift performance. It bonds the EPS board to the structural deck (both galvanized metal and structural concrete), filling depressions, and deck flutes. Elastizell Roof Decks have numerous UL, FM, and Miami Dade County wind uplift ratings.

Fire Ratings/ Non- Combustible

Elastizell lightweight insulating concrete roof decks have numerous fire ratings. These assemblies are non-combustible and do not require fireproofing of the underside of the steel deck or a thermal barrier that is necessary with rigid board systems. The Elastizell system does not require any adhesives or mechanical fasteners through the deck. The flutes of the metal deck are filled, eliminating the fire channel.

Thermal Performance

Elastizell composite insulating concrete roof deck systems can achieve greater R-value performance at lower unit costs than conventional board stock insulation systems. Both the insulating concrete and EPS insulation contribute to the system R-value. Due to its high thermal mass (specific heat capacity), Elastizell insulating concrete is an excellent heat sink; it heats up and cools down slowly thereby minimizing cyclic stress on the roof membrane system associated with other insulation types. This improves the longevity of the roof membrane system.

Permanent

Elastizell lightweight insulating concrete roof decks completely encapsulate the EPS insulation board within the system. When re-roofing, only the membrane needs to be replaced. This lowers future costs significantly on re-roofing which is a tremendous life-cycle benefit; only the roof membrane system requires replacement. The Elastizell system should be the last roof insulation system to install on a building.

Speed

Roofing may begin when the Elastizell lightweight insulating concrete roof deck can withstand foot traffic – typically two to three days after the deck is cast. Elastizell lightweight insulating concrete roof deck is an ideal base for built-up or single-ply roof membranes which may be installed two to five days after casting. These may be ballasted, fully adhered, or mechanically attached. This allows the roofing contractor to excel at installing the roof membrane system and not be inhibited by the intensive labor associated with all the pieces and parts associated with complex pre-tapered board stock insulation systems.

Re-Roofability and New Construction

Elastizell lightweight insulating concrete roof decks encapsulate EPS board within the system. The EPS board is bonded to the deck in new construction or to the existing deck in re-roofing applications. When combined with EPS insulation, Elastizell Roof Decks provide a solid base for roofing membranes with custom R-values and slope-to-drain capability. The EPS insulation is protected within the system for a permanent LTTR (Long Term Thermal Resistance).

Elastizell Systems' ability to expertly mix on-site requires only bulk deliveries which reduces truck traffic by up to 90 percent. Elastizell Systems has provided exceptional lightweight concrete applications and solutions for more than four decades. In a recovery or retrofit situation, most major commercial roof membrane manufacturers will consider Elastizell as a new substrate allowing for longer-term warranties.
